Vivianne Miedema’s brace followed by Kerstin Casparij’s strike sealed a precious three points at Old Trafford which moved the Blues to within five points of title with three top-flight matches remaining this term.

The division’s all-time leading scorer, Miedema, deservedly put the visitors ahead on 16 minutes when she headed home from a corner before she repeated the trick soon after- nodding a cross from the right past Phallon Tullis-Joyce.

Fellow Dutch international, Casparij, then set the seal on a memorable afternoon when tucking home Lauren Hemp’s pass shortly after the interval.

And Jeglertz has hailed City’s ability to dictate proceedings at Old Trafford and the Swede heaped special praise on the Blues’ first-half performance.

“The first half, I don’t know if it’s the best half, but it’s one of the best this season,” he declared.

“Looking at players’ ability of doing this in this kind of game here, having that confidence and playing that belief, it’s amazing.

“And being part of it. Definitely I enjoy it and, I’m not saying it was relaxed, but I felt we had control of the game and the players were having enjoyment and finding solutions to things.

“It was a fantastic game.”

City were boosted by the return of Ayaka Yamashita, Yui Hasegawa, Aoba Fujino and Mary Fowler from the Asian Cup for the trip to Manchester United.

The Japanese trio were selected to start by Jeglertz against our cross-city rivals and the Australia international was introduced in the second-half.

And the Blues’ Head Coach says it’s a pleasure to have such strength in depth at the club as we continue to fight on two fronts before the curtain falls on the season.

He added: “It’s a fantastic luxury to have that depth and it’ll be important for us the rest of this season because we’ve had some injuries.

“But we’ve had players at the Asian Cup also and they’ve stepped up. It was difficult to choose the line-up but that’s good for the players, they challenge in each session.

“If you have a challenge in each session, it means my job will be tougher, but I can also get Kerolin in the game, she can be a gamechanger, Mary Fowler, just look at the bench, they can affect the game.

“It’s crucial to have that.”
