On her last visit to Balmoral Stadium, Jenny Smith scored one of the Goal of the Season contenders as the Ghirls ran out 4-0 wins on their travels against Aberdeen.

And there was an air of familiarity as the Celts made their return north to face the Dons, with the Celtic midfielder scoring, and playing her part in another 4-0 win.

Kicking off the start of the second half in ideal fashion with another brilliant strike, the Scotland internationalist helped Elena Sadiku’s side to their fourth win of the campaign.

Speaking to Celtic TV in the immediate aftermath of the match, Smith insisted that the squad were happy to take home three points, but ultimately believes the performance as a whole could have been better.

She said: “I think we could have done better. I don’t think it was our usual performance. We discussed that at half time and after the game.

“It’s wasn't enough goals in our eyes, and the performance could have been better. There were some aspects of the performance we did well.

‘But overall, I think we could have done better.’

“We obviously scored four goals, but we want to score more goals. We are a hungry team, and it could come down to goals at the end of the season.

“So, I think it’s important to score more goals like we did last season. But we have got the three points too, which is good.”

Following Sunday afternoon’s game, it is quickly back to work for the Celts who will be aiming to maintain their winning start to the campaign as they welcome Hibernian to Airdrie.

For Smith and the rest of the squad, they are determined to improve upon their display as they hard work at the beginning of the season continues.

“I think we created chances, but I don’t think it was quite our usual performance,” she said. “We did things well during the game.

‘But I think it’s just about going back into training now, and working on the things we didn’t do so well in the game.’

“Hibs are obviously a really tough opponent. We’ll all be going into training, working on rectifying things.

“So, I think it’s just about getting our heads down from here and getting ready for the next game.”
