PA reports that Jermain Defoe has been appointed manager of National League club Woking. He had recently been linked with a possible return to Tottenham.
Craig Ross and Jake Hyde will take charge of Tuesday’s home league game against Altrincham.
Defoe will be assisted by Paul Bracewell. Ross and Hyde remain in the backroom team alongside Dale Gorman.
Defoe called Woking a historic club with huge potential, said he is excited by the project and eager to start.
Chairman Todd Johnson praised Defofe’s playing pedigree and emphasised his vision, standards, leadership and focus on player development. He said Defoe matches the club’s plan to build on firm foundations and move into the next phase.
The former West Ham, Portsmouth and Sunderland striker has coached in Tottenham’s academy and served briefly on a four-man caretaker staff at Rangers in 2021. He scored 20 goals in 57 senior appearances for England.
