The upcoming summer transfer window will be an important one for Barcelona, who will have to address multiple key positions before the start of the 2026-27 season. A centre-back and striker are wanted, while a new left winger would also be needed if Marcus Rashford does not sign permanently – which is looking increasingly likely.
Despite needing to address a number of areas of Hansi Flick squad, president-elect Joan Laporta has told Món Esport (via MD) that Barcelona do not have plans to make considerable changes in the summer.
“We don’t need to go to the market for the sake of going and we must continue to look at what we have at home to, if necessary, improve the squad. I understand that we will improve in all aspects, but I must say that what I think should be done after getting such a competitive team is to maintain it and consolidate it.”
Rather than new signings coming in, Laporta has made it clear that he wants Barcelona to continue prioritising promotion from within. He is of the belief that a number of La Masia stars are ready to push for a place in Flick’s squad.
“I believe in La Masia. I already focused on it during my first term. In this, I am not doubtful. I have always had in mind that the best Barça teams – even better, the best Barça team in history – has been when we have had a core of players from home with others of great quality who have come from abroad.
“We will only sign if the management team asks us for a player or two who can reinforce this great team we have.”
It remains to be seen the business that Barcelona do in the summer. It makes sense for La Masia to be looked at once again, but in order to push to be the best squad in Europe, they need to add proven quality too.
