Joao Cancelo shines in Levante rout, calls it his best game back at Barcelona

FC Barcelona put in a great performance last night, which helped them get back to the top of the La Liga table with a 3-0 win over Levante. Several players from the Catalan team stood out in this game.

The brightest of these players was the fullback Joao Cancelo, who got a surprise start on the left flank. The Portuguese defender played a part in the first goal scored by Marc Bernal and then also gave the assist for the second goal scored by Frenkie de Jong.

Cancelo’s attacking runs and precise crosses into the box were constant threats, earning him the Man of the Match award.

Reflecting on his performance, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, Cancelo said:

“My best match since returning? Yes, definitely. It’s about taking the opportunity—I was training very well and felt the coach was going to play me. When you train well, things simply flow on the pitch.”

The fullback was also quite happy with his team returning to winning ways:

“I’m an attacking full-back. The important thing is the victory. Football always gives you a second chance, and after two bad matches, we played very well against a team with very good players, despite their position, and we deserved the win. In La Liga, it’s hard to win every game.”

It was really good to see Joao Cancelo putting in a decisive shift for Barcelona after having joined the Catalan team in the last winter transfer window. Hopefully, he will continue putting in such contributions for the rest of the season as well.
