Former Benfica presidential candidate João Diogo Manteigas has called on Rui Costa’s board to explain the recent change in Benfica SAD’s shareholding, seeking public clarification on the matter.

According to Glorioso 1904, Manteigas used LinkedIn to ask whether the club had been informed in advance by shareholder José António dos Santos about the intended transaction, and whether the club had been granted priority over the past year to buy his stake.

He also asked if the board is considering taking Benfica SAD off the stock market, stressing the potential risks and financial implications of any such decision.

Manteigas queried ties with the new investor, asking if meetings have been held between the club and Entrepreneur Equity Partners after José António dos Santos sold his position to the fund.

He further warned about future control of the SAD and urged a stronger club position. He asked whether the board would work with members on mechanisms to increase the club or its SGPS stake in the SAD, noting that the new structure could allow minority shareholders to influence strategic decisions.
