Joao Gomes is leaving Wolves for Villa in a £38m transfer. He has left the club’s training ground in Portugal and will fly back to the UK to complete the biggest ever deal between the neighbours.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, Villa targeted the Brazilian after Amadou Onana suffered a long-term injury, before Youri Tielemans joined Manchester United for £38m earlier this week.

Atletico Madrid had been heavily linked with Gomes following Wolves’ relegation from the Premier League, but no agreement materialised. Talks between Villa and Wolves accelerated in recent days, and the 25-year-old is due to undergo a medical before completing the move.

Talks have also taken place with Bayern Munich about a potential loan for Portugal international Joao Palhinha. Villa are on course to sign Freiburg midfielder Johan Manzambi in a club-record deal before the end of the week.

Right-back Andres Garcia has joined Getafe on a season-long loan. Gomes joined Wolves from Flamengo in 2023 and made 130 appearances in all competitions, scoring eight and assisting six. Manchester United had also been credited with an interest, but Villa have made the decisive move.
