Strasbourg striker Joaquin Panichelli suffered a serious right knee injury in Argentina training on Thursday. According to TyC Sports, it could be a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament. That would end his season and his hopes of a first World Cup this summer, 11 June to 19 July.
He is due to undergo tests. The setback came while preparing for friendlies against Mauritania on Saturday at 00:15 and Zambia.
Panichelli is Strasbourg’s most used outfield player this season with 2,832 minutes in all competitions, scoring 20 in 39 matches. He is the current Ligue 1 top scorer with 16.
He previously spent 10 months out in 2024 at Alavés after damaging the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
The 23-year-old was not in the original March squad but received a call-up once a second warm-up against Zambia was confirmed.
Strasbourg are eighth in Ligue 1, remain in the Europa Conference League where they face Mainz in the quarter-finals, and will meet Nice in the Coupe de France semi-finals on 22 April.
