London City Lionesses head coach Jocelyn Precheur says his London City Lionesses side ‘need to learn about each other’ and that results won’t improve if they ‘don’t improve fast’.

The newly-promoted side crashed to a 5-1 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.

It has been a difficult start for the high-spending Lionesses who also suffered a 4-1 loss to Arsenal on the opening weekend.

London City are expected to impress this season after making a number of impressive signings over the summer transfer window.

However, defeats to two of last season’s top-four has left them bottom of the Women’s Super League table.

London City Lionesses need to ‘improve fast’ says Jocelyn Precheur

Speaking to the media after London City Lionesses’ 5-1 defeat to Manchester United, Jocelyn Precheur said: “(We need to) keep working because we are not ready to adapt this intensity at the moment.

“We have the capacity (to be) for sure, but if we don’t improve fast, we cannot expect a better result, especially against the top four.”

The London City Lionesses were the most-busy Women’s Super League side in the summer transfer window.

Overall, they brought in 17 new players, with 15 heading in the opposite direction. Among the new additions include record signing Grace Geyoro.

When asked how long it would take for his side to build team chemistry, he said: “Yeah, it is difficult, but this is a challenge we need to face at the moment.

“We need to learn about each other. Many players, I still don’t know them very well and the most important thing now is we start to learn about them individually.

“To create connection, create automatism, [and] find a good combination to bring stability to the team and start to build the equation we need.”

What’s next for London City?

Though the London City Lionesses are expected to do well in their first Women’s Super League campaign, they are not expected to challenge the top-four sides, including Arsenal and Manchester United.

So their next test, an away trip to Everton on Friday, September 19th, could be more telling about where Jocelyn Precheur’s side stand in the WSL.

London City have two further away games this month. They play WSL 2 side Crystal Palace in the Women’s League Cup next week, before travelling to Manchester City on Sunday, September 28th.

After a difficult start to the campaign, Precheur will hope his Lionesses side can gel in time for the start of October, when their fixture schedule starts to improve.
