Joel Piroe has slipped to the margins at Leeds United, and a summer departure could follow, raising the prospect of a Luke Ayling reunion at Middlesbrough.
TeamTalk reports that, once Leeds secure Premier League status, Piroe is free to leave this summer and Daniel Farke has already decided to move him on. Middlesbrough and Rangers are cited as options for the new Suriname international, who is set to enter the final year of his contract at Elland Road.
Piroe has not scored in the Premier League this season and has been sparingly used, featuring in 14 of 34 matches. Across those outings he has logged 218 minutes and only two starts, both in August.
That contrasts with his Championship output, where he has delivered four straight seasons of 14 or more goals for Swansea City and Leeds. He struck 19 last season and previously hit 22 for Swansea. Leeds paid £16m for him.
Middlesbrough appears the most practical next step, offering a return to the second tier and a link-up with Ayling, who joined permanently in 2024. The pair were team-mates for six months.
With a contract running to 2027 and minimal Premier League impact, this window looks the clearest chance to move him on while a defined Championship market remains. Piroe’s situation is already settled through selection and usage.
