Leeds United’s striker search has been checked as Crystal Palace moved closer to signing target Jorgen Strand Larsen, with talks over an initial £45m plus £5m in add-ons said to be with Wolves.

Leeds had an initial offer for the Norway forward rejected just over a week ago, and The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported their bid reached £40m and is not currently going higher. Palace’s move comes amid ongoing speculation over Jean-Philippe Mateta’s future.

A striker remains the priority for Leeds in the final three days of the window, and Strand Larsen appears the only serious option under consideration. If he joins Palace before Monday’s 7pm deadline, it becomes increasingly likely Joel Piroe stays with Daniel Farke’s squad.

Piroe has had limited minutes this season as summer arrival Daniel Calvert-Lewin has established himself as Farke’s first-choice striker, prompting talk of a move away.

One Championship club made an enquiry for Piroe, with Ipswich among those who asked, and the player wants to remain at Leeds. The club are not pushing him out, he is reluctant to drop to the Championship, though an offer could yet change his thinking. For now, nothing has shifted.
