Cosmos' struggles persist in third tier

Former Premier Soccer League (PSL) team Jomo Cosmos have stretched their winless run in the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League following a 2-0 defeat to TUT on Tuesday afternoon.
Ezenkosi are currently winless in their last five league outings in the South African third division, with their last victory dating back to 01 November in a 4-2 triumph over Young Pirates.
As a result, the team spearheaded by revered South African football legend Jomo Sono, is languishing in 16th place, having picked up eight points from nine games in the 18-team championship.
Cosmos are in their fourth season in the amateur league after a dismal 15th place finish in the Motsepe Foundation Championship saw them get relegated during the 2021/22 campaign.
Interestingly, the club finished third and fourth, respectively, during their first two seasons in the third division. However, it has been downhill since then.
Meanwhile, Cosmos will be back in action with a clash against fellow strugglers JBM FC on Saturday, 22 November as they aim to beat the slump.
It remains to be seen whether the team that was once a force to be reckoned with in the South African football landscape can resurge and overcome the cutthroat business of the ABC Motsepe League.
Cosmos enjoyed significant success during the early 2000's as they lifted the Coca-Cola Cup (now Carling Knockout Cup) in the 2002/03 and 2005/06 terms.
Furthermore, they won the SAA Top 8 (now MTN8) during the 2003/04 season and the league title in the form of NPSL in the 1986/87 campaign.
