With 40-year-old Manuel Neuer expected to retire either at the end of this season or in the summer of 2027, Jonas Urbig is widely seen as his likely successor as Bayern Munich’s first-choice goalkeeper.
In an interview with Sky Germany, the 22-year-old opened up on what it feels like to potentially follow in the footsteps of such a legendary goal keeper.
“Whether I am the one [to succeed Manuel Neuer] is not my decision,” Urbig said.
“What I can influence is bringing the right mindset and quality, and then putting that into practice, because FC Bayern is a very big club.
“I feel that I have managed that very well so far – mentally, always being prepared to be needed and to be there, so I can deliver on the pitch,” the former 1. FC Köln goalkeeper added.
With Neuer having missed several games this season, Urbig has featured in 14 matches for Bayern during the 2025/26 campaign.
