Jonathan Tah has confirmed he has made a decision on his future at Bayer Leverkusen amid speculation he will seek a free transfer this summer.

The defender can leave the club for nothing this year as his current contract expires at the end of June.

Tah played an important role in the German outfit’s unbeaten 2023/24 domestic campaign which saw them claim the Bundesliga and cup double and reach the Europa League final in Dublin.

His performances have reportedly attracted the attention of some of Europe’s top sides, including Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

Leverkusen are desperate to hold onto the 29-year-old, but Tah has finally revealed he intends on finding a new club ahead of next season.

“Yes. Yes, definitely,” he is quoted by Kicker as saying when asked if he was going to leave Die Werkself this summer.

“I don’t have a timeframe, to be honest,” he added. “But the club knows about it. And I’ve been very open with them, as I always have been.

“Everything was said at the start. There was a point when I made the decision not to extend my contract and not to stay here. And that’s how it’s going to go now.”

It is expected that Tah will join Bayern, although Tah refused to confirm where he will go and it is still possible he will end up in the Premier League.

Tah joined Leverkusen from Hamburg ten years ago and since gone on to make 397 appearances for the North Rhein-Westphalia outfit.

Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso, who is also rumoured to be leaving the club this summer, addressed the speculation surrounding Tah in December.

“I’m not worried about that at the moment,” the former Liverpool midfielder commented via Marca. “We’re happy that Jona is with us this season. His attitude is top notch, he has a big influence on our game. We need him until the very last day. Then we’ll see what happens in the future. The summer is still too far away for me.

“It’s no surprise, we spoke very honestly in the summer. He is a top-level leader and his level is getting better and better. Now we are happy that he is with us.”
