Jorge Jesus and Gabigol, icons of Flamengo’s golden era, met in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday as the Portuguese coach visited Brazil. According to Globo.com, he is on holiday and has been reconnecting with members of that generation.
On Saturday he met Filipe Luís, Bruno Henrique, Rodrigo Caio, Diego, Vitinho and Diego Alves, all of whom he coached at Flamengo.
The same day he went to the Maracanã to watch Flamengo beat Coritiba in the Campeonato Brasileiro. He received applause from sections of the crowd, and it was his first time watching Flamengo at the stadium since leaving in 2020.
Jesus oversaw 58 matches between 2019 and 2020, winning 44, drawing 10 and losing four. He holds the club’s best win rate of the century at 81.6%, and lifted five trophies, the Carioca, Brasileiro, Libertadores, Supercopa and Recopa.
His most recent job was at Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, where he won the national title with Cristiano Ronaldo’s team. His name has been linked with the Portugal national team after the World Cup.
