Jorge Jesus arrived in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday morning for a short holiday, and will attend his first Flamengo match since leaving in 2020. He plans to be at the Maracanã at 16:00, Brasília time, for the 18th round game against Coritiba. The former head coach is expected to receive an ovation from the home crowd.

According to Globo.com, before heading to the stadium he is set to visit Ninho do Urubu and have lunch with Leonardo Jardim, who invited him.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Flamengo’s current manager discussed his compatriot’s visit and said he did not feel threatened in his role despite the club idol being available.

Jesus oversaw 58 matches for Flamengo across 2019 and 2020, winning 44, drawing 10 and losing only four. His 81.6% record is the club’s best of this century, and he lifted five titles, the Carioca, Brasileiro, Libertadores, Supercopa and Recopa.

His most recent job was at Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, where he won the national title with Cristiano Ronaldo’s team.

He has also been linked with the Portugal national team role after the World Cup.
