The 66-year-old has managed around 20 teams and national sides, among them Olympique de Marseille from 2021 to 2022 and Stade Rennais in 2024-2025.

His brief stint with Argentina ended in a last 16 defeat by France at the 2018 World Cup. In Chile he won several league titles with Universidad de Chile between 2011 and 2013, then the 2015 Copa América after managing the national team for four years from 2012 to 2016.

Club Atlético Talleres finished fourth in Zone A and were eliminated in the last 16 of the opening tournament of the Argentine Championship by eventual champions CA Belgrano.
