Jorginho emotional after captaining Flamengo for first time in 3-0 win | OneFootball

According to Coluna Do Fla, Jorginho wore the captain’s armband for the first time as Flamengo beat Botafogo 3-0, then thanked supporters on social media.

With Arrascaeta on the bench and Bruno Henrique in the medical department, the squad handed leadership to the Italo-Brazilian midfielder, recognised for his influence in the dressing room and clear communication.

He described it as a huge honour to wear the shirt and to captain the side for the first time, celebrated adding three points, and urged the Nação to keep pushing together.

After years in Europe, the midfielder accepted Flamengo’s offer in mid 2025. He has since won the Libertadores and the Brasileirão.

His contract runs until 2028, so he could add much more silverware.

With Jorginho available, Flamengo face Remo at the Maracanã on Thursday 19 in the seventh round of the Brasileirão, from 20:00 Brasília time on Premiere, pay-per-view.
