Flamengo's Carioca crown last Sunday has cooled tempers, and José Boto has earned a reprieve as Leonardo Jardim settles in. The director of football remains in post for now amid dressing-room friction.

According to Globo.com, Jardim was well received by the squad and marked a win over Cruzeiro on Wednesday in only his second game. President Bap has given Boto a vote of confidence.

On Boto's advice, Bap prioritised changing the coach, sacking Filipe Luís. The director negotiated both the exit and Jardim's arrival, and further upheaval is seen as a risk to the new coach's adaptation.

Relations with players have frayed, particularly around Filipe Luís's departure, which many felt lacked respect. Boto also blamed the squad, a view Bap partly shares in believing the group lacked firmness, so the director's hard line is not an issue for him.

Bap has tightened oversight and is weighing a football supervisor to work alongside Boto, handling player relations and the link to the board. Any appointment would need Jardim's agreement, as he likes close control of the environment.

The plan to start with the under-20s brought one point from three games, so Bap recalled the seniors early, a move that irked Filipe Luís and Boto. Inside the club, Boto's promised scouting revamp jars with high-spend deals that needed Bap's intervention, though he values the director's market knowledge and last year's sales. He recently intervened in Wallace Yan's move to Red Bull Bragantino, judging the terms unfavourable to Flamengo.
