According to Globo.com, José Martínez has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury to his left knee following tests and is expected to miss most of the 2026 season for Corinthians. The club has not yet confirmed the diagnosis.

He reported back at CT Joaquim Grava last Saturday after arriving in Brazil on Friday and underwent physical assessments. One of his first acts on return was to inform staff he was injured.

He had already spent an extra month out of training due to passport issuance and Brazilian work visa problems after his holidays in Venezuela.

Corinthians reconvened on the third of January, but he needed a new passport because the old one had no blank pages for immigration stamps. His extended absence irritated members of the coaching staff, football department and board.

During this period he missed training sessions and nine Corinthians matches.
