O Jogo reports that a low-cost termination window in Mourinho’s contract expires on Tuesday, 26 May, making any Benfica exit harder. The same report says he has decided to head to Real Madrid, but has not yet informed Rui Costa.

In a race against time, businessman Riquelme, 37, saw his candidacy approved, a development that has stalled Mourinho’s move to Madrid.

Instead of travelling to Spain, Mourinho was spotted in Berlin, attending the DFB-Pokal final between Bayern Munich and Stuttgart, where he could observe Michael Olise, a Real Madrid target.

His future will remain unresolved in the coming days, with the Real Madrid election outcome still awaited. Benfica, who must go through Europa League qualifying rounds, are trying to start preparations early to avoid disruption.
