It was heartwarming to see Joshua Zirkzee celebrate like crazy with his teammates following Manchester United’s triumph at Anfield against Liverpool.

The Dutchman has not started a single game this season and has remained an unused substitute in the last two Premier League games.

Given this is a World Cup year, the 24-year-old is naturally not too happy with his lack of minutes and is keen to play more to earn a place in the Netherlands’ World Cup squad.

Which is why there have been rumours linking him with a return to Serie A, where he had flourished with Bologna. English teams are also keen on the versatile forward.

Joshua Zirkzee exit talks

Fans have often seen players become a disruptive influence when not earning regular minutes, but as revealed by Fabrizio Romano on Givemesport, that is not the case with Joshua Zirkzee.

He remains a very popular figure in the dressing room, and is fully focussed on trying to win over Ruben Amorim so as to play more between now and January.

The Italian journalist revealed that a discussion on his future will take place should the status quo not change before the winter window.

“Joshua Zirkzee’s future at Manchester United could be one to follow in the upcoming months, ahead of the summer transfer window, because the forward has not been a big part of head coach Ruben Amorim’s plans so far this season and has been handed limited game time.

“First of all, it’s important to clarify that Zirkzee isn’t creating any problems and hasn’t said anything to Amorim about any issues.

He is a “really appreciated figure”

“He is working hard to get more game time and help the squad, while he is always being positive with his teammates and is a really appreciated figure in the dressing room.

“At the same time, his situation must be monitored because the striker is not playing much and he doesn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to compete at the World Cup with the Netherlands.

“So what about January? At the moment, Zirkzee is focused on Manchester United and trying to get more space. He is training at his best, but if the situation doesn’t change by December, this story could be one to follow.”

Amorim has made it clear that he would like the ex-Bayern Munich ace to stay as he values the qualities he brings. The likes of Amad and Bryan Mbeumo will leave for AFCON which means a place might open up.

It will be interesting to see what happens ultimately with the Netherlands international. There are loan and permanent offers on the table and INEOS and Amorim will take the final call.
