Josko Gvardiol has been linked with a move away from Manchester City this summer.

He has also been linked with Bayern Munich, but they have yet to make a formal move.

Journalist Florian Plettenberg claims the Croatian defender has signed a new deal with City, ending speculation about his future.

The 24-year-old’s current deal expires in 2028, but he is now set to extend it until 2033.

Gvardiol joined City from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig in 2023 and has become a vital player for them. He won the club’s player of the season award in 2024-25.

The Croatia international has made 122 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with 23 goal involvements for City.

He struggled with injuries last season, missing 30 games due to fitness concerns.

Marc Guehi and Abdukodir Khusanov became the first-choice centre-back pairing in his absence, while Nico O’Reilly took the left-back role.

Gvardiol will hope to regain his place in the starting line-up, and his contract extension could strengthen City’s position in the summer transfer window.

The Cityzens want to strengthen their squad by adding a right-back and a central midfielder. They could also sign a winger if Savinho leaves.

Gvardiol’s departure would have affected their plans as they would have been forced to sign a new defender to replace him.
