Liverpool Eyeing Lamine Camara as Midfield Rebuild Takes Shape

Liverpool may still be wrestling with uncertainty around Arne Slot and the direction of the squad, but one transfer link is beginning to gather genuine traction. During Anfield Index’s Media Matters podcast, journalist Lewis Steele and host Dave Davis spent time discussing Liverpool’s growing interest in Lamine Camara, and the conversation suggested there may be substance behind the rumours.

Steele revealed that conversations with contacts in France had pointed him towards Monaco’s highly rated midfielder as a player admired internally by Liverpool.

“I was chatting to my guy in France this week and he seems to think that Liverpool do like Camara now,” Steele told Davis.

That line immediately stood out because Liverpool’s search for midfield reinforcement has become one of the key themes heading into the summer window. Steele also explained that Monaco appear to be anticipating serious interest from England.

“He also seems to think Monaco is sort of ready for a bid from a top English team,” Steele added.

Lamine Camara Fits Liverpool’s Traditional Profile

What makes the link particularly interesting is how Steele framed Camara’s suitability for Liverpool’s recruitment model. Rather than discussing him purely as a talented young player, Steele pointed towards several characteristics that align with the club’s long standing transfer approach.

“I started to do a bit more digging on him and just a profile quite a lot about him ticks a lot of Liverpool traditional Liverpool boxes,” he said.

That assessment will inevitably encourage Liverpool supporters searching for signs of a coherent rebuild after such a difficult campaign. Steele also noted that Liverpool continue to monitor Ligue 1 closely, revealing that Monaco are not the only French club being watched.

“There is a bit of a buzz around Ligue 1 players and who Liverpool might be linked with,” Davis observed during the discussion, while Steele confirmed that “Liverpool have got a few Ligue 1 players on their minds including midfielders”.

The attraction is obvious. Camara is young, technically strong and already earning attention across Europe. Steele even referenced a recent goal from the midfielder that had caught attention online, adding to the growing excitement around his development.

Midfield Concerns Continue Under Arne Slot

The transfer conversation cannot be separated from Liverpool’s wider midfield issues this season. Earlier in the podcast, Steele had criticised Liverpool’s current midfield setup in blunt terms after the defeat at Aston Villa.

“They’re cut through like they’re not there,” he said, describing how opponents have repeatedly bypassed Liverpool’s central players throughout the campaign.

That ongoing weakness explains why Liverpool supporters are increasingly focused on the club’s recruitment plans. Steele made it clear that Liverpool need players capable of changing the trajectory under Slot after a season that he described elsewhere in the podcast as “a catastrophe”.

Importantly, Steele stopped short of claiming a deal for Camara was close. “I’ve not heard anything to suggest Liverpool are ready to make a move or that he’s definitely a target,” he clarified.

Still, the tone of the discussion suggested this is far more than a random rumour cycle. Liverpool’s admiration appears genuine, Monaco are preparing for interest, and Camara’s profile fits many of the qualities Liverpool have historically valued in midfield recruits.

For a club searching for renewed energy and structure under Arne Slot, the name Lamine Camara is unlikely to disappear any time soon.
