England edged Norway 2-1 after extra time in the World Cup quarter-finals, Jude Bellingham scoring both goals as Erling Haaland was kept quiet.

L'Équipe notes that Bellingham delivered a tireless, tactically sharp display, with Elliot Anderson, who recovered nine balls, and Jordan Pickford also standing out, while Erling Haaland and Orjan Nyland struggled. He roamed intelligently, adjusting to Thomas Tuchel’s tweaks.

Norway struck first on 36 minutes, Andreas Schjelderup’s curious centre-shot kissing the post on its way in. Alexander Sorloth lashed over on 39, then Pickford denied Martin Ödegaard at 40.

England levelled on 45+2 when a move started by Anderson ended with Bellingham finishing smartly. Declan Rice went off at half-time due to a virus, and the Arsenal winger Noni Madueke was withdrawn.

After the break Pickford pushed away Haaland’s effort on 53, Schjelderup made way for Antonio Nusa on 67 and Sorloth was replaced by Oscar Bobb on 68. Pickford then denied Nusa on 85, and Nyland looked jittery with his feet under Djed Spence’s press on 90.

Early in extra time, on 93 minutes, Nyland spilled Anderson’s floating strike and Bellingham pounced for 2-1. Bobb then conceded a penalty that VAR overturned at 101, Haaland was substituted for Strand-Larsen at 106, and Pickford produced a double save from Spence and Bukayo Saka at 109.
