Jürgen Klopp has addressed RB Leipzig’s decision to part company with head coach Ole Werner. Klopp is Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull.
“We are acting in an advisory capacity as the Global Team,” Klopp said. “But we were involved in the decision-making process and analyzed the season. Ole (Werner) did a fantastic job. We qualified for the Champions League.” He was speaking to Magenta TV while working as a World Cup pundit.
“But we also have to look forward at the same time. And when we thought about what that might look like, they decided on a change.”
RB Leipzig are expected to replace Werner with RCD Mallorca’s Martin Demichelis. “I'm not involved in speculation now. Everything that can be said will come from Leipzig,” the 59-year-old said.
Leipzig’s sports managing director Marcel Schäfer said in the club’s official communication: “We have analyzed the past season intensively. And, on Tuesday evening, we decided to change the head coach. We have come to the conclusion that a different approach is necessary for the tasks ahead.”
