Jules Koundé forced off injured as Barcelona win at Villarreal

France defender Jules Koundé was forced off injured in the 78th minute as Barcelona won 2-0 at Villarreal on Sunday, in the 17th round of La Liga.

According to L'Équipe, the right-back, 27, capped 46 times by France, had just made a recovery on a counter when, in the 77th minute, he sat down and signalled for a change.

He appeared to suffer an adductor problem and was replaced by Marc Casado.

The setback was the only blemish on a controlled display by Barcelona. In the first half, Koundé diverted a cross into his own net, but it was ruled out for an earlier offside.

His availability will be monitored, with Barcelona due to face Espanyol after the La Liga break on three January, then Athletic in the Super Cup on seven January.
