Jules Koundé sustained a left hamstring problem for Barcelona in Tuesday’s Copa del Rey semi-final against Atlético Madrid. He is expected to be out for about one month, which would rule him out of France’s friendlies with Brazil and Colombia.
L'Équipe reports that Les Bleus will play two friendlies in the United States as part of their World Cup build-up, facing Brazil on 26 March in Foxborough (Massachusetts), then Colombia three days later in Landover (Maryland). The tournament runs from 11 June to 19 July.
Koundé was withdrawn in the 13th minute on Tuesday night as Barcelona were eliminated by Atlético, winning 3-0 on the night but losing 3-4 on aggregate.
For Barcelona, he is expected to miss the Champions League round of 16 first and second legs against Newcastle, plus three league matches with Athletic Bilbao, Seville FC and Rayo Vallecano.
It is a significant setback for Hansi Flick, who has struggled to do without him. Koundé is the second most used player under the German coach this season, behind the versatile Eric Garcia.
