Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez has said he is unsure where he will be playing next season amid speculation about interest from Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona.
Alvarez scored twice as Atletico Madrid thrashed Tottenham Hotspur 5-2 in the Champions League on Tuesday night. The Argentine’s double helped Atleti to a big win, giving Diego Simeone’s side a strong lead in their last-16 tie.
Alvarez has scored 45 goals in 98 games since joining the Spanish side from Manchester City in 2024.
His performances have led to interest from rival clubs, with Barcelona making him their top target to replace Robert Lewandowski. Arsenal and Chelsea are also open to bringing the 26-year-old back to the Premier League.
Following the win over Spurs, the forward said he did not know where he will be playing next season, but insisted he’s ‘happy’ in Madrid.
“I don’t know. Maybe yes, maybe no (I’ll be at Atletico next season). I have nothing to say other than I’m happy. On social media a lot of things get talked about, but it’s nothing. We’re very happy competing in all competitions, so everything is going very well.”
Simeone was also asked about Alvarez’s future. He said Alvarez has played his best football at Atletico and that he remains happy at the club.
“I see Julián Álvarez very happy to be here. Hopefully he can stay. If we look at the teams he played for, Atleti is where he scored the most goals.”
