Anton Stach has been handed a fresh opening with Germany after Jurgen Klopp replaced Julian Nagelsmann, while Willy Gnonto’s Italy wait goes on.
According to Sky Sports News, Pep Guardiola has turned down the Italy head coach role, with the federation still searching after failing to qualify for the World Cup.
Stach, 27, impressed in his first Leeds season after arriving from TSG Hoffenheim last summer, earning a recall for March friendlies. He made 10 minutes off the bench against Switzerland, then remained unused against Ghana.
He seemed in contention for the World Cup squad before an ankle injury late in the campaign. The issue was not serious, yet he was left out of Nagelsmann’s group for this summer’s tournament in the USA, Mexico and Canada. Germany then exited in the last 32, losing 4-3 on penalties to Paraguay after a 1-1 draw following extra time.
Nagelsmann resigned after that defeat and Klopp’s arrival could offer Stach, capped three times, a new chance. Gnonto has not featured for Italy since September 2023, and his international future remains on hold while a new manager is sought.
