The new year was off to a disappointing start for Real Madrid as they were dealt a fresh injury blow, with main forward Kylian Mbappe getting sidelined.
Initial reports suggested a three-week absence for the Frenchman. But at the same time, there have been claims that for now he is only sidelined for Sunday’s match against Real Betis and might have an outside chance of featuring in the Spanish Super Cup.
Building on that, Jose Luis Sanchez of El Chiringuito now reports that Mbappe is indeed expected to travel to Saudi Arabia with the rest of the squad for the Spanish Super Cup.
However, as things stand, it will be very difficult for him to get any minutes in the semi-final clash against Atletico Madrid.

But, in case Los Blancos see off their neighbours and make it through to the finals of the competition, there could be a possibility that Mbappe features even though he is unlikely to be at 100% fitness.
The 27-year-old superstar has been the single biggest source of goals for Real Madrid this season, bagging 29 goals in all competitions, accounting for more than half of what the team has scored.
Naturally, his absence will come as a major blow, especially with the team and manager Xabi Alonso under intense pressure after a difficult run of results in December.
So, it remains to be seen how things evolve with Mbappe in the coming days, but as things stand, he is likely to travel for the Super Cup with the team despite the chances of him playing in the semi-final are minimal.
