Justin De Haas is, if nothing goes wrong, set to be Valencia’s first signing for 2026/27 after agreeing terms. A summer arrival is planned because Famalicão refused a January sale, according to Superdeporte.
The move stems from a November 2025 shake-up, with Miguel Ángel Corona departing and Lisandro Isei, Hans Gillhaus and Andrés Zamora arriving.
Dutchman Gillhaus knew De Haas from PSV and made the left-footed centre-back a priority. Talks began in November to meet Carlos Corberán’s request for that profile. Valencia rate his aerial power, ball-playing and set-piece delivery.
Valencia stole a march on rivals. Real Oviedo were rebuffed last summer as Famalicão wanted around five million euros, while Championship sides and Celtic moved again in January. De Haas turns 26 in February and both see the move as a chance to grow.
This month president Miguel Ribeiro rejected Valencia’s offer of one million euros and is still trying to renew the defender, whose deal runs to June 2026. The club prioritises sporting goals, chasing Europe with De Haas key for Hugo Oliveira.
Famalicão have the second-most clean sheets in Portugal, behind Porto, and sit next after Porto, Benfica and Sporting for fewest goals conceded. Valencia eased off amid the urgent need for a right-sided centre-back after Mouctar Diakhaby’s injury, though January was never entirely ruled out.
