Igor Tudor's journey as Juventus coach began with a victory: the Bianconeri beat Genoa 1-0 at the Allianz Stadium thanks to a great goal by Kenan Yildiz in the first half, and in doing so secured an important three points.

AN INTENSE START

Things got off to a lively start: in the 3rd minute, Teun Koopmeiners slotted in behind the Genoa defence and picked out Dusan Vlahovic with a smart pass, but he was denied at the last second. In the 6th minute, Nico Gonzalez was the architect of an excellent move, beating several opponents and finding Vlahovic who in turn crossed for Yildiz, whose diving header was cleared off the line by Stefano Sabelli - however, play was eventually called back for offside.

YILDIZ FINDS THE BREAKTHROUGH

Genoa also posed a threat and in the 12th minute Andrea Pinamonti beat Renato Veiga to the ball to cause problems for the Juve defence, but Federico Gatti was on hand to recover possession and clear the danger. However, the Bianconeri defender stayed down after the challenge and would later be forced to leave the pitch through injury. Shortly afterwards, Juventus scored what would turn out to be the winning goal in the 25th minute through Yildiz who, after great work by Vlahovic, controlled the ball before beating Koni De Winter with a sharp turn and firing past Nicola Leali from a tight angle.

Genoa tried to react, and in the 35th minute Johan Vazquez played a through ball for Fabio Miretti, but Lloyd Kelly read the situation well and blocked the ball behind for a corner. Juventus sought out a second goal and in the 43rd minute they came close to doubling their lead: Yildiz dispossessed Miretti and found Vlahovic, who struck a shot on the turn, only to be denied by a save from Leali.

A CONTROLLED SECOND HALF PERFORMANCE

Genoa tried to get back into the game at the start of the second period, but Juventus remained composed and even had a few opportunities to put the game to bed: Yildiz broke free from two opposing defenders in the 57th minute and teed up Vlahovic, whose shot was caught by Leali. In the 72nd minute, Pierre Kalulu got on the end of a corner kick but was denied by a great save from the Genoa keeper. The visitors made their presence felt with an attempt from outside the box by Ruslan Malinovskyi in the 82nd minute, but Michele Di Gregorio dealt with it with ease.

In the closing stages the Bianconeri went close to doubling their lead, first through Manuel Locatelli, who struck a great strike from the edge of the area, with his effort saved by Leali, and then in the final seconds through Timothy Weah, who got on the end of a superb pass from Khephren Thuram and connected well with his effort, but was only able to pick out the Genoa keeper.

The game ended with Juve victorious, and now attentions turn to the away match against Roma.
