Juventus covet Sandro Tonali and are ready to make a splash for him, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that their chase will be successful, and they are examining some alternatives, like Benfica’s Florentino, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.
The Bianconeri scouted him a few times this campaign. He has featured 40 times across all competitions, scoring twice and assisting once. He’s seen as a muscular and defensive-minded option that would complement their current contributors.
Juventus will kick the tires on Florentino during the new transfer window in June. He spent time at Monaco and Getafe on loan in the past, without breaking out. He’s been playing in Portugal for the past three seasons, appearing regularly in the Champions League too.
Tonali downplayed their interest in January. The Old Lady will continue to try. The acquisition would cost about €150M, considering the fee and a rich five-year contract, Tuttomercatoweb informs. Including some makeweights, like Douglas Luiz, would soften the blow, but not dramatically. He’d have to ask out and pick them as his destination, but he seems perfectly happy at Newcastle United.
If they have any chance to get the Azzurri star, they should give it a go, although it looks like a far-fetched deal. The midfield is actually the one position where they could stand pat, unless they are plotting unexpected departures. Khephren Thuram has become a cornerstone, and Manuel Locatelli and Weston McKennie are steady. They have more hope of reviving Teun Koopmeiners than signing the Magpies ace. Douglas Luiz has given them so little that they wouldn’t need to go all-out for a replacement if they cut ties with him.
