Juventus have entered the race to sign Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford, with the Serie A giants monitoring his situation ahead of a potential summer move, according to the Daily Mail.

The 23-year-old has impressed in limited opportunities under Pep Guardiola this season, stepping in during domestic cup competitions and delivering when called upon.

His performance in the Carabao Cup final against Arsenal was particularly eye-catching, with a string of early saves keeping Man City in the game.

Despite those flashes, Trafford remains behind Gianluigi Donnarumma in the pecking order and has made just three Premier League appearances this term.

That lack of consistent minutes is beginning to attract interest, with Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa already circling for the former Burnley shot-stopper.

Trafford only returned to the Etihad last summer in a £27 million deal, having played a pivotal role in Burnley’s promotion campaign.

His remarkable haul of 29 clean sheets in 45 Championship appearances underlined his potential, but regular game time has been harder to come by since rejoining City.

Juventus are now registering interest in the young goalkeeper.

Currently fourth in Serie A, the Italians are actively exploring the market for a new goalkeeper and view Trafford as a long-term option.

However, their tight purse is a stumbling block.

City want to recoup (or even profit on) their investment, while Juve have only around £17 million to spend on the transfer, making an initial loan deal more realistic.

The Turin club are also considering alternative options.

For Trafford, the priority has to be regular football.

He needs a team where he can play week in, week out and establish himself as a potential successor to Jordan Pickford in the England goal.

If Juventus can guarantee him playing time with the prospect of Champions League football, then he should consider it.

Aston Villa is another potentially exciting destination if Emiliano Martinez leaves.

They are on course to play in the Champions League next season, providing the perfect platform for him to shine.

Trafford cannot consider a move to Spurs at this point.
