Manchester United have been informed that Juventus midfielder Teun Koopmeiners is available at an affordable price.

During his time at Atalanta, the Dutchman was one of the most sought-after midfielders in Europe.

Juventus managed to recruit his services in August 2024 following a soap opera that ended with the player effectively forcing his way out of Bergamo by presenting three medical certificates to justify his absence from training.

Juventus open to selling Teun Koopmeiners for €30m

Sadly for Koopmeiners, his time in Turin has been vastly underwhelming, as he has thus far failed to replicate his Atalanta exploits.

Last season, former Juve head coach Thiago Motta continued to back the Dutchman, describing him as a ‘special’ player with a skill set like no other.

But nowadays, the 27-year-old is no longer a starter at Juventus, as Luciano Spalletti prefers to rely on the likes of Manuel Locatelli, Khephren Thuram, and Weston McKennie in the middle of the park

Therefore, the Serie A giants are open to parting ways with the Netherlands international at the end of the season.

According to Italian journalist Gianni Balzarini (via TuttoJuve), Koopmeiners’ book value won’t exceed €30 million (or £26m) in the summer, so this figure should be enough to convince the Old Lady to sell the underperforming midfielder.

The source adds that Man Utd and Galatasaray have both been gathering information about the former AZ Alkmaar star, so it remains to be seen if they will follow it up by making a concrete move.

Should Man Utd consider Koopmeiners?

With Casemiro leaving and Manuel Ugarte considered dispensable, United might need to buy three new midfielders in the summer.

While Jason Wilcox would love to recruit the likes of Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali, and Aurelien Tchouameni, the club surely cannot afford to make three big-money signings for the same department in one summer.

Therefore, the Red Devils will have to consider low-cost signings at some point. Nevertheless, Koopmeiners might not necessarily be the right profile.

The Dutch midfielder was sensational during his time at Atalanta, but he’s become a shadow of his former self since joining Juventus, hence why the Turin-based giants would be happy to cut their losses by selling him in the summer.

Koopmeiners is capable of playing almost anywhere in the middle of the park, but he hasn’t truly excelled in any position.

Thus, Man Utd would be better off investing in a player who’s on the rise rather than one enduring a steep decline.
