Robert Lewandowski is entering the final stretch of his current contract with FC Barcelona, and uncertainty continues to surround his future beyond this season. Now in his fourth year at the club and at 37 years of age, the Polish striker has yet to make a definitive decision on where he will play next.

Despite Joan Laporta recently backing the veteran forward to continue at the club due to his consistent performances and his commitment in forcing a move from Bayern Munich in 2022, Lewandowski himself has remained non-committal whenever questioned about his next step.

Meanwhile, interest in the striker continues to grow globally, with clubs from the United States and Saudi Arabia monitoring his situation. More recently, Juventus have emerged as a serious contender, as the Italian giants prepare for a significant squad overhaul ahead of the summer transfer window.

Amid these links, Polish legend Zbigniew Boniek, who enjoyed a highly successful spell in Turin alongside Michel Platini, has publicly encouraged his compatriot to consider a move to Serie A. Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Boniek reiterated his long-standing advice to the Barcelona forward:

“If he wants to fight for victory every Sunday for two more years, Juventus would be a great challenge and the perfect place for him. I have always told Lewandowski to come to Italy.”

Boniek stressed that the final decision ultimately depends on Lewandowski’s personal ambitions at this stage of his career:

“It depends on what’s in his mind. If Robert wants to retire quietly, I would tell him to let football run its course. But if he wants to fight for victory every Sunday for two more years, Juventus would be a great challenge and the perfect place for him.”

The former Juventus star also highlighted his long-standing relationship with the striker, dating back to Lewandowski’s early years in Poland, and reiterated his belief that Serie A represents a unique test for forwards:

“I have known Robert since he was a little boy playing in Poland’s second division. Even then, he was scoring many goals. Later, we met in the national team, me as president of the federation, him as a forward.“

“Sometimes I would tease him and say, ‘You score so many goals because you’ve never played in Italy. To be a true goalscorer, you also have to prove your potential in Serie A. Perhaps it’s not the most beautiful league to watch, but it is still the toughest, especially for forwards.”

Having already scored over 100 goals for Barcelona, Lewandowski finds himself at a crucial crossroads. With no prospect of featuring in another World Cup, the veteran striker must now decide whether to pursue a new challenge or continue at the highest level with the Catalans.

For the time being, his priority remains clear. Lewandowski will aim to finish the season strongly and help Barcelona compete for La Liga and the UEFA Champions League, before making a final call on the next chapter of his illustrious career.
