Dusan Vlahovic isn’t the only player who didn’t leave Juventus despite having just a year left on his contract and perhaps against the front office’s intentions. Director Damien Comolli decided not to force some exits. Weston McKennie, Filip Kostic, and Daniele Rugani will remain at Igor Tudor’s disposal as well, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.
At this stage, neither of the four is likely to re-up its deal. They might all depart on a free in 2026. In the meantime, they’ll have their chances to help the team depth-wise.
McKennie was in the same position early last summer, when he was briefly frozen out, but then Thiago Motta decided to include him in his rotation. He eventually agreed to a one-year renewal with Juventus. The new brass hasn’t been as drastic with outbound players, but there’s no extension in sight for any of them.
The USMNT staple has dropped down a few notches in the pecking order and only subbed in late in the first two rounds. Rugani is the fifth center-back in the squad. He’s currently the top deputy since Pierre Kalulu is being utilized on the flank. Kostic is the main alternative to Andrea Cambiaso on the left wing. He provided a key assist against Genoa.
Since they are under contract, they might as well use them. The indication not to be brutal with the players they wished to sell, which is a shift from their recent past, likely came directly from the ownership. Not wasting salaries comes at the expense of the possible income from sales, which would have been fairly sizeable if all four exited.
