Leeds United are yet to make a signing this summer, but key targets have begun to emerge. Germany playmaker Julian Brandt, out of contract at Borussia Dortmund, is on their list.
Dortmund’s managing director Lars Ricken said: "There were open discussions and we agreed that his expiring contract would not be renewed."
Leeds are aware of rival interest, including from Champions League clubs, so any move will be complicated. If they pull it off, it could be among Daniel Farke’s best signings.
Arsenal’s Kai Havertz is among those who rate Brandt highly. In 2020, he said Brandt was better than both Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho, with all three in the same side that later finished second, scoring 84 goals in 34 games.
Leeds have a big summer ahead, with more room in the market after Financial Fair Play restricted them from spending much more than £100m last time.
An attacking midfielder is expected to be targeted, with Brenden Aaronson still the only No 10 since Daniel Farke arrived. If Leeds land Brandt it would be a sensational coup, although securing him is another question and Farke is pushing for a deal.
