Harry Kane signed for Bayern Munich to win the biggest trophies.

With three ties between him and Champions League glory, the opportunity he has been chasing for years is now firmly in sight.

The England captain will lead the line when Bayern face Inter Milan in a blockbuster quarter-final. This fixture will separate contenders from champions – a test of pedigree, character and belief.

And unlike his first trip to this stage with Tottenham Hotspur, Kane now has a team around him with the experience and expectation of winning it all.

His only previous final appearance in the competition was in 2019, when Spurs fell short against Liverpool.

Kane, carrying an ankle injury, had barely played in the run-in and struggled to impose himself in Madrid.

That night was a rare opportunity for a team punching above their weight. This time, with Bayern, it is different – Kane is not the underdog.

Vincent Kompany’s side were dominant in dispatching Bayer Leverkusen in the last round and remain unbeaten at home in the Champions League since 2019.

They are the only club to have reached the quarter-finals in each of the last six seasons.

Their 5-0 aggregate win over the Bundesliga champions reinforced the idea that Bayern are still built for this stage. Inter will pose a different kind of problem.

Simone Inzaghi’s side have conceded just two goals in the Champions League this season and are ruthless on the counter-attack.

But Bayern have the firepower to hurt anyone, and Kane’s 36 goals in all competitions underline his status as the difference-maker they have long lacked in Europe.

Injuries to Jamal Musiala and Kingsley Coman are a blow, but Kompany is confident in the group. “We can find creative solutions,” he said. “It is about moments. We also showed we can do it against Leverkusen.”

This is Kane’s best chance yet to win the Champions League – and one Bayern are expected to take. No longer shouldering the burden alone, he is now part of a machine that knows how to deliver at this level.

The road ahead will not be easy, but if Bayern beat Inter, the dream inches closer. For Kane, it is time to turn past pain into a legacy.
