Karim Adeyemi (23) was close to leaving Borussia Dortmund for Napoli in January with both clubs close to reaching a total agreement. But fast forward to now, and the German attacker could not be happier at die Schwarzgelben, where he dreams of winning a Bundesliga title.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with WAZ, Adeyemi said: “I feel great here. Everything else will follow. Believe me: I finally, finally, finally want to drive around Borsigplatz with the fans. That’s a big dream of mine, and I want to fulfill it one day.” The 23-year-old is alluding to Dortmund’s title celebrations which take place in the square, just a 30 minute walk from Dortmund train station.

Adeyemi scored 12 goals and provided 11 assists in 41 games across all competitions last season, his best return since his arrival from RB Salzburg in July 2022. The 23-year-old scored four goals and created three as BVB went eight games unbeaten to secure Champions League football, something that looked a distant dream at the time.

The German’s upturn in form has led to Borussia Dortmund wanting to extend Adeyemi’s contract beyond 2027 and with two years remaining on his current deal, they have no intention of selling their prized asset.

With a contract until 2027, Adeyemi established himself as an important player under Niko Kovac. This came after the German attacker almost left the club for Napoli in January. And now with Gittens’ departure and an injury to Julien Duranville, Adeyemi will again be at the forefront of Dortmund’s attacking plans. The 23-year-old has created a formidable partnership with Serhou Guirassy, which BVB will want to keep heading into the 2025/26 season.
