Lennart Karl made history on debut as Germany edged Switzerland 4-3 in their first outing of the year.
Introduced a few minutes after the hour, he replaced the ineffective Leroy Sané as one of Julian Nagelsmann’s first two changes. According to Transfermarkt, at 18 years and 33 days he is the seventh youngest to feature for Germany and sits among the top three youngest debutants for the Nationalmannschaft in the 21st century.
Since Uwe Seeler’s 1954 debut, only Youssoufa Moukoko and Jamal Musiala have played at a younger age for Germany than Karl.
Florian Wirtz was outstanding as Nagelsmann’s side came through an entertaining contest.
Joshua Kimmich made his 107th appearance, moving to within one of ninth on the all-time list, Jurgen Klinsmann. Lothar Matthäus leads the way with 150 caps between 1980 and 2000.
