Lennart Karl answered questions about his injury, rehab process, and whether he’ll watch Germany’s games at the World Cup after a heartbreaking injury. The 18-year-old is out of the tournament after a torn muscle fiber in his thigh during Germany’s training session in Chicago.
"The injury happened while I was shooting on goal,” Karl opened up about the moment. “I felt it immediately. It was quite a shock for me, as I had such high hopes and was in good shape. Playing in the World Cup would have been an absolute dream of mine. Unfortunately, I have to accept it and look ahead.”
The FC Bayern player returned to Munich at the start of the week to start the rehabilitation program. "I’m in Munich for initial treatment, and then I’ve been given some time off. During these first few days of rehab, I can’t do much except give the injury time to heal. After that, the recovery phase will begin at some point," added Karl in an interview with BILD.
For many players, watching their peers after such disappointment would be difficult, but the youngster confirmed he’ll be tuning in to the games. “Of course, I'll watch the opening match (against Curaçao), just like every other one. I don't know exactly where yet. But I'll definitely be cheering the boys on and supporting the team. I'm absolutely convinced that the team will give it their all and have a great World Cup.”
