Manchester United’s interest in Kevin Filling has taken an unexpected twist after a report stated the Red Devils had entered negotiations for the 16-year-old striker.

“Concrete Negotiations”

As relayed by The Peoples Person here, Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg revealed United were in “concrete negotiations” with AIK Fotboll to sign their starlet.

The striker marked a triumphant debut for the Allsvenskan side with a goal and is considered one of the standout prospects in Swedish football.

Possessing a 6’1 frame with excellent physicality and mobility, Filling has already drawn lofty comparisons to Alexander Isak – who came through AIK’s youth system as well – and former Red Devil Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Plettenberg contends United had opened talks to sign the youngster with a fee in the region of £2.6 million sufficient to secure his signature.

The German reporter also noted there was significant interest in the Sweden U-17 international within the Bundesliga, while Premier League rival Tottenham Hotspur have previously been linked with a move.

But, according to a fresh report today, Plettenberg’s update is incorrect – and fans should not expect to see the Swedish starlet holding a red shirt anytime soon.

No Deal

Steven Railston (Manchester Evening News) rejects the idea that United are locked in talks for Filling as the club are “not currently pursuing” the striker.

“Reports have claimed that United are in negotiations to sign Filling from AIK for around €3m (£2.6m), but the Manchester Evening News understands that is wide of the mark.”

Railston reveals it is “not unusual for United to be mentioned in transfer reports in order to give agents leverage,” suggesting this is the case with Filling.

He further writes that “due to Brexit rules” United’s academy is “essentially limited to a UK-based recruitment search,” rejecting the idea that Filling could join United in January as he is only 16 and would be joining from another European nation.

“Premier League and EFL clubs are not allowed to sign players from abroad until they are 18, and all transfers from European nations require a work permit to be allocated using a points system.”
