Kobbie Mainoo convinced Man United are heading in the right direction as new contract beckons | OneFootball

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo reportedly believes the Reds are headed in the right direction even as the club prepares to hand him a new contract.

Over the last 12 months, Mainoo has experienced a meteoric rise at Old Trafford. He certainly hasn’t looked back since making his Premier League debut against Everton last November.

In next to no time, Mainoo cemented himself as a regular for United and in the process, worked his way into Gareth Southgate’s plans for England’s Euro 2024 campaign.

In the 32 club games he featured in last term, the Carrington academy graduate scored five goals and registered a further three assists.

Some of his goal contributions were extremely clutch for United, including his winner against Wolves at the Molineux, his superb strike vs. Liverpool at home and his brilliant goal in the FA Cup final win over Manchester City.

It was previously reported that United were keen on offering Mainoo a new deal to keep him tied to the club for the foreseeable future and now Sky Sports have given an update on the situation.

“Some breaking news. Something Man Utd fans will welcome. We have learnt that the club will sit down with Kobbie Mainoo after the transfer window shuts and discuss a new deal that rewards the performances of his breakthrough season reflects on the importance that he is to the club’s future.”

“He is 19 years old, already on a long-term contract but the club will consider improving his terms a priority despite there being no rush.”

“Mainoo’s camp are pretty relaxed given his current deal actually runs until 2027. There’s an option of an extra year as well which includes in-built pay rises linked to performances and that’s what is going to be looked at after the window.”

“The England international feels that United have demonstrated a commitment to his development and he is convinced they are heading in the right direction together with the new leadership team in position.”

“The club are building a midfield around Mainoo, we understand and they’re currently in the market, with Manuel Ugarte their top pick.”

“So good news, the club will sit with him when the window shuts and discuss with him details of a new performance-related deal.”

Mainoo started in United’s Premier League opener vs. Fulham and is likely to keep his place in the club’s next clash vs. Brighton at the Amex.
