Limited minutes and active recruitment have left Sebastiaan Bornauw on the fringes at Leeds United, with Koln assessing a return for the centre-back.
Kicker reports that Koln are considering a move to re-sign the Belgian, who has made nine appearances with few minutes this season. He has not featured in 26 Premier League matches and has started only four, registering no goal contributions. Bornauw previously played for Koln between 2018 and 2021.
Daniel Farke has repeatedly named him among the substitutes without using him, and has explained that three specialist centre-backs are ahead of Bornauw. He said it hurt not to involve the defender and that he was reluctant to disrupt a settled unit.
Recruitment is driving the picture, with Leeds targeting Ladislav Krejci for the defence, the Czech Republic captain is set to join Wolves then depart immediately. Hugo Bueno is also on the list, so competition is increasing rather than easing.
Farke had pursued Bornauw since trying to sign him for Norwich in 2021, eventually landing him from Wolfsburg for £5m at the start of the season. With a contract through 2029, Leeds are under no pressure to sell, yet his position suggests a move is increasingly logical, with Koln offering a clearer role.
