After their 2-0 win over Union S-G this evening, Vincent Kompany wasn't surprised that his Bayern side had to battle hard in order to secure the three points.
“It's the Champions League. It can't always be easy. I wouldn't say the opponent was better in the first half, we also had chances, but the pace was quite slow.
“In the second-half we played very well despite the red card. It was a strong reaction once again by the team,” Kompany said in his post-match press conference.
When asked about the German record champions' struggles in opening halves of recent games, Kompany vowed that his side will look to improve going forward.
“The opponents simply try to throw everything at us from the start. I played for dominant teams before, and sometimes it's like that, the games open up in the second half.
“But yes, we can do better in the first-half. We also shouldn't forget that we're playing every 3 days. We have to find the right balance,” he explained.
Bayern won't have to do any long-distance travelling this weekend. They host FC Augsburg on Saturday afternoon at 15:30 CET as part of Matchday 20 in the Bundesliga.
