Midway through the first half of the Europa League match between Roma and Midtjylland, the hearts of many Roma fans stopped for a moment.
Koné had collapsed to the ground, and the signs seemed far from positive, with the Frenchman forced to ask for a substitution shortly thereafter.
In the final minutes of the match against the Danes, won 2-1 by Gian Piero Gasperini’s men, El Aynaoui also complained of knee discomfort. Both players underwent routine tests, and the results revealed a contusion-sprain, but no ligament damage.
Both the Frenchman and the Moroccan are aiming to be there against Conte’s Napoli tomorrow night at the Olimpico.
Both could start, and, according to Il Tempo, it remains to be seen which formation the Giallorossi coach will adopt.
Dybala, who has now recovered from a hamstring injury, could return to the starting lineup, with Pellegrini and Soulé behind him. The other option, however, is to see Cristante move upfield and the Koné-El Aynaoui pairing in midfield.
A win would see the Roma side jump to a five-point lead over Conte’s men, who have since recovered Spinazzola but not the other former Roma player, Romelu Lukaku.
