Teun Koopmeiners scored for the first time in any competition since May during the Netherlands’s 4-0 victory at home against Hungary in the Nations League on Saturday evening.
The Juventus midfielder put the finishing touches on a move that saw three Serie A players combine. Milan’s Tijjani Erijnder laid off for Inter’s Denzel Dumfries, who provided an enticing cross for Koopmeiners to head in from the middle of the area.
Koopmeiners, who joined Juventus in a €60m deal from Atalanta over the summer, had not scored for club or country since La Dea’s 2-1 victory over Salernitana in Serie A on May 6. There had been a gap of 194 days between his two most recent competitive goals.
The Netherlands have now finished their Nations League group stage campaign and have come in second place behind Germany. Ronald Koeman’s side could be a potential quarter-final opponent for Italy if the Azzurri finish at the top of Group A2.
Italy-France will kick-off in San Siro at 19.45 on Sunday evening.
