Leeds United earned a battling 1-1 draw at Tottenham Hotspur on Monday, extending their unbeaten Premier League run to seven and climbing to 14th with two games left. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the display quashed any talk of them being on the beach.
Mathys Tel put the hosts ahead five minutes into the second half. Dominic Calvert-Lewin levelled from the spot after a high boot on Ethan Ampadu. Deep into added time, Antonin Kinsky denied Sean Longstaff with a brilliant save.
Injuries mounted as Jayden Bogle missed out with a hamstring issue, with Facundo Buonanotte, Gabriel Gudmundsson, Noah Okafor and Ilia Gruev already sidelined. Pascal Struijk was forced off in the second half with a hip problem. It underlined how quickly depth can be tested, even after a season of generally good availability.
With numbers stretched, academy prospects Rhys Chadwick and Jayden Lienou were named on the bench. Sebastiaan Bornauw, Lukas Nmecha, Willy Gnonto and Longstaff all made telling contributions off it despite limited minutes. It would not be hard to argue that Gnonto, Longstaff and Nmecha outperformed Dan James, Ao Tanaka and Brenden Aaronson, so Daniel Farke might be tempted to tweak things at Brighton on Saturday.
Leeds are mathematically safe with three games to spare and are closer to eighth than 18th. The squad celebrated with the travelling fans after full-time in a relaxed mood. They should receive a rousing Elland Road welcome on Saturday, their first match since safety was confirmed and the final home fixture of the season.
